CloseTheCamps Vigil
Sunday, August 11, 2019 • 10 Av 5779
4:00 PM - 5:00 PMSuburban Temple-Kol AmiOn Sunday, August 11th, at 4pm, Bend the Arc, National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW), The Religious Action Center (RAC) and T’ruah are joining together with Jewish communities across the nation to demand an end to our current government’s policies that are endangering, abusing incarcerating and deporting refugees, asylum seekers and immigrants. We have chosen to speak out on August 11th because it is Tisha B’Av, the Jewish day of mourning, and we cannot ignore the cries of those who are suffering as the result of inhumane and unconscionable treatment by our government. Jews across the world will be lamenting the destruction of our Temple in Jerusalem and all the holiness that went along with it. This Tisha b’Av we lament a different kind of destruction – the destruction of the value of welcoming immigrants and being a beacon of freedom and safety to those fleeing violence and oppression that was once central to our identities as Americans and as Jews.
If your religious practices allow, please join Bend the Arc Cleveland, NCJW/Cleveland and RAC Ohio at Suburban Temple-Kol Ami in Beachwood to lament, pray and demand the US government close the detention camps in solidarity with our immigrant neighbors and communities.
RSVP on event page on Facebook or directly here. All are welcome.
